About the Artist

It all started in New Orleans, Louisiana

Spontaneity of Jazz and its call and response interaction, inspires me to use my brush and knife strokes and colors to create excitement and depth in a "come join in" invitation for the viewer.

Spending many hours sketching jazz bands in bars and on the streets of New Orleans brought together for me, the atmospheric combination of crowds, music and movement that continues to apply to my present work. The overall atmosphere is a major determining factor.  Frequent comments I receive are "I can hear the music"., "I feel like I'm there.", or "I feel like I can touch...."

Sharing those feelings with clients will always make painting a huge joy for me.

Ann was born in Savannah, Georgia. Growing up in the Low country, surrounded by marsh and rivers, taught her to appreciate the interconnections between various elements of nature and life.  At age 5, while watching her father paint zoo animals on road side signs, Ann was certain she would be an artist.

While learning to ignore typical fears and general uncertainties of earning a living as an artist, one of several visits to New Orleans introduced her to a very responsive art community of over 200 artists from around the world. They, with the city in general,  provided her the opportunity to fulfill her dream. She knew she was home.

For 35 years, Ann was inspired and learned to paint in an atmosphere filled with Jazz, eclectic colors, endless street characters and art lovers.

The destruction of Hurricane Katrina changed her trajectory and she said good-bye to her beloved city. After accepting an opportunity to begin again in Augusta, Georgia in one of its leading art galleries, Ann now works as a studio artist with featured works in the gallery and in shows. Commissions continue to keep life interesting.

Ann's work has been featured in the French Quarter Festival, Monterey Blues Festival, the Westobou Festival, interview with "jazzColours" - an Italian "email-zine" (focus on the jazz world), on the book cover of "Multicultural New Orleans: an Historical Sketch by Jeremy du Quesne Adams (2001). Her work has been shown in solo and group exhibitions in New Orleans, Arkansas and Maryland, the Louisiana Watercolor Society, the Abaco Art Festival, Abaco, Bahamas, as well as the Jessye Norman School of the Arts in Augusta. Ann has a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree but points to the streets of New Orleans as her most influential instructor.
